Inspired by several designs I’ve seen here I built a cart with dust collection for my newly acquired Dewalt DW735 planer. I don’t have a dust collector yet, so building the stand with dust cabinet was appealing for not only collecting chips and dust out of the blower on the planer but also an all-in-one solution of sorts made sense in my garage where I have very limited space (you can see I share space with bikes, a refrigerator, and a few household items.) Made of 3/4 BB ply, there is a horizontal baffle inside about 1/3rd of the way from the top with a hole in it which allows air to exhaust up through to the vent on the side. Planed a few test boards and I was very pleased with the results. No leaks and the filter on the side catches all of the very limited amount of dust that makes it’s way up the baffle into the upper chamber.

Once I do a bit more planing I’ll eventually trim the dust hose to a more reasonable length – being this is my first planer, I wanted to make sure I had enough length.

Big thanks to those on LJ who’ve shared similar projects!

That a great idea if you don’t have a dust collector. Heck, even with a dust collector I don’t see it getting too much better. Nice job and good thinking.
