2020 is starting out great. i decided to go finish a skirting job on a mobile home that we started yesterday. i got to visiting with the home owner and mentioned the three nice walnut trees he had in the back yard and said i would gladly remove them for him if he wanted to get rid of them and he just laughed. he came back later as i was finishing up and said if i wanted to go look at the pile of logs he had on his other lot i could and if i could use them i could have them.
so i had to satisfy my curiosity and go take a look… this is what i found. a nice pile of mostly walnut logs with a couple of poplar to boot. he said i could take what i wanted if i could use them. just taking them would make me feel like i was steeling to i tolld him i would build him a nice live edge coffee table to put in his new house. i still think i got the better deal. going friday morning to remove the logs and take them to my sawyer to make some boards.

Nice of you to offer something in return! That looks to be some good plunder in there. I bought a Record lathe from a guy who had it for 22 years without ever even assembling it. I told him that I wood make a turning on it to give to him. He said that I didn’t have to do that. I’ve had it 10 years and have yet to make a project on it. Guess he won’t be getting a turning, since it looks like I’ll be selling it, too, since I’m not using it. Hopefully you have better luck with the wood!

I always pick up “scraps” like that when they present themselves, but around here there never is any walnut. Looks like you may have some interesting wood under that bark..

Congrats on the “Daily Top 3” 8^)

You came across a good find and cheap enough to boot, I thought I could see some Black Locus logs in there also? If so they are HARD! but some make pretty lumber.
