This is a free standing Butch Block that I built for my Brother. I got the plans from the New Yankee Site and started my work. It is all from Solid Red Oak, the top is Solid Maple. I did end up modifying the plans, slightly and not on purpose. While building, I accidently shortened the stretchers by about 3 inches as I didn’t pay close enough attention to the plans. The project came out great, I was working fast to finish it as it was for my Brothers Birthday.

The plans are great and address everything. The top is even cut on angles to allow for it to expand and contract and “float” within the picture frame. I enjoyed this project and my Brother has been using it non-stop for a few months now, so far with no problems.
