It started out simple enough, I was going to make my grand daughter an ornament for Christmas. So I did a quick sketch on a small piece of pine, and I was off. Cut out the piece on the scroll saw, shaped with a couple good carving chisels. It really turned out well, that’s when I showed my wife the cool ornament for Skyler.

Of course she loved it and ordered 5 more for work, maybe a few for the neighbors….. a quick excuse to be in the shop created a whole bunch more time in the shop.

The big group are made of cherry, finished with a quick coat of polyurethane, the original is just pine, no finish applied, just a note from Pops. They are about 4 1/2 inches tall and about 3 inches wide, 1/2 inch thick.

Merry Christmas to y’all.

What a great idea! It has that ‘old fashioned Christmas’ feel about it as well!

Thanks for the comments, my wife is thinking we may need more for book club…

Each one is textured on one side and a little hand written note on the back. They were fun to make, I like the fact they are each individual and the imperfections make them special.

Merry Christmas Jim.

Look at it this way, you are happy with extra shop time, and everyone that gets a tree ornament is gonna be happy too.
