Client’s daughter was getting married and he wanted a 10×12 pergola for the reception, then his wife got involved. It grew to 16×22, LED dimmable lighting, 2 ceiling fans, outdoor TV, roll up sun shades, wifi, stereo, new handrails with LED dimmable lighting. All the LED, TV, stereo and fans are controlled via house wifi. Pergola is made from engineered 6×6, hand picked #1 prime pine, architectural accents by Ozco. Each post is anchored to a reinforced concrete pilar with stone veneer. I took the rafter tails from the cloud lift at the Thorsen house. Now he wants a mini version over the hot tube in the foreground…......

That’s outstanding. Sure wish I had room for something like that.

Can you come to my house and make one? (:>) Great job. What degree of pitch did you use on the roof?

Roof product is SunTuf polycarbonate. Pitch on the roof is quite low at about 3deg. It’s just enough that water sheds off to the front. I’d been happy with higher but the client wanted it flat to maintain the roof line he wanted, I wanted 5+, we compromised on 3.

Actually, the hot tub in the foreground went away this fall. It was over 25yo and a family of raccoons had taken up residence in the insulation and wrecked the plumbing and wiring, so new tube time. I demoed the old tub, stripped off the decking in that area and put back enough so he could get his new tub installed. We’re designing a “mini me” pergola similar to the larger one. The balance of the deck is going to get new 5/4 and to the side we’re installing a wood fired pizza oven and built in outdoor refrigerator.

I see you will go back for another job, but I am surprised they did not give the deck a face lift for the “big event” while you were onsite and had all your gear and tools mobilized.

Well he was paying for a wedding and this thing at the same time.

It’s in the 20s here now and he’s got me back working on the other deck with the hot tub. It will be a “mini me” of the big one and all the sketchy 5/4 is going to be replaced. Also to be installed, a wood fired pizza oven, outdoor refrigerator next to pizza oven, LED dimmable (wifi enabled), stereo, ceiling fan. That’s for starters, we were planning yesterday and this afternoon.

Have your say...
