Project Information

I made this clock out of quarter sawn white oak. My daughter and I took a day trip to Motawi Tile in Ann Arbor to buy the tile. We also got to take a tour of the factory. The finish was achieved by fumigating with household ammonia for 2 days followed with Danish Oil and then a couple of coats of wipe on polyurethane. I tried the danish oil without fumigating and just didn't like the result as much.

Very nice.
If you like that style, if you get a chance you should go to the Gamble house in Pasadena CA. The entire house is built in that style.

Nice! I have never fumed a project. Your work may inspire me to consider the process. My work has the same mixture of oils that match all the pieces in the home. Thanks for the source for the tile. I visited the web site. An entirely new set of projects will have some tile feature. The type face for the clock has the Mission/Wright/Greene feel. Where did you source the clock and clock face? I have been using mica with lamps. The project that have underway may have tile inserted instead of mica. Thanks for sharing. Great work !!

The gamble house would be a great place to visit. That is a Greene and Greene design. The clock face came from Schlabaugh and Sons.

You lamp looks great. Loot at the Motawi website under displays. You can see how they integrated the tile into their lamps (which are also made by Schlabaugh and Sons).
