Made 6 “shoji” style closet doors. European Alder (Black Alder?), Warlon “Taf Top” shoji paper, rice glue, finished with poly. Solid wood floating panels. All double M&T, made with a Leigh SuperFMT I found on Craigslist.
Extra long finger grabs as a special design consideration.
More or less happy with how they turned out, though I still have to do some trim work around the doors. Was always afraid to try to make doors because of the low tolerance for any sort of warping, etc, but found nice straight grained wood and that part of it was OK.
If I do more, I may make them somewhat thinner. These are 1 3/8, more or less a standard door size, but give how they hang, I think they could be made thinner (maybe 1-1/4) and lighter, more like a screen.
Thanks for lookin’

Really fine work, much more elegant than solid dorrs.
Well done.

These look really nice – I especially like how the light works in the first photo.

Very cool. I love shoji doors. I need to look up the shoji paper.

Very attractive. Wish I had a room this size so I could make some myself.
Well done.
