My dad used this saw when I was in Boy Scouts in the 80’s, I inherited it when he passed in 2011. It had a broken back support, clearly he had tried to repair it with the hose clamp and some PU adhesive. He did the best he could in pre-internet days, he likely did not know what split-nut saw nuts were so he used the bolts from the Ace Hardware in town. I made a new support in white oak copying the form of the handle-piece. Routed and sanded to break the corners, cleaned the steel parts with phospho, and did not even try to match the color or patina of the original. It was just Bill’s saw, now Bill & Chris, we will see who gets it next!

Nice save. Looks like a good buck saw.

Good work on a worthwhile project. I predict you’ll take especially good care of it and each time you use it, you’ll get an extra measure of satisfaction.
