Project Information

I made this box because I wanted to build a wooden hinge. So after searching around I found a U-tube video showing how to make one using a router and scrollsaw (actually fairly easy). The video also showed a box using a birds-mouth router bit, I had one of those bits in my collection of bits and I always wondered what is was used for, now I know. I used the birds-mouth bit to make the sides using Padauk and Walnut, the top is veneered birds-eye maple top and bottom and the hinge and clasp is maple. Finished with shellac then several coats of gloss lacquer.

Cool Box! The maple is gorgeous and the padauk and walnut compliment each other nicely.
The hinge and hasp is very cool. You've put a lot of great features into this beautiful box.
Well done.

Interesting way to do the handle. The top section is a fabulous piece of wood, birdseye maple and birds-mouth joints, nice combo.

The birds-mouth joint is on my to-do list.
