Project Information

Hot off the finishing bench. Pair of oak keepsake boxes. The basic design for these I stole from someone else, then tweaked it so no one will notice. Maybe?

The tops were a tad problematic for assembly, as I had to stain all the parts beforehand. I had to make certain the central panels kept their natural color. These were stained with achohol-base ebony, then sanded out. Made entirely of white oak, except for the top center and base of the darker one, which is Holm oak.

For the Holm oak one, I had to trim the carcass slighty because the lid was a little tight.

The Holm oak top is bookmatched.
Dim: 10cm X 10cm
Finished with spray laquer, gloss.
Padded real velvet bottom panels, which can be removed if need be.

Still need to do a tiny bit of polishing on the brass with some steel-wool.

One of these boxes will be donated to my son´s christmas charity raffle at school.

Thanks for viewing.

Creative!

I'm always drawn to details that don't always tell about the work required. In this case, that sanding out and polishing of the WO lid and dish end grain is outstanding! Surly (I know, "Don't call me Shirley") you had some burning to erase with that end grain!

Good luck with the raffle!

You are so smart! Not the first time I am amazed by your wealth of knowledge. A modified card scraper took care of the router burn, but I had the router rpms set low to begin with, so burn was not so bad.
