A little background – started out making bandsaw boxes to give to family & friends. As I got better I contacted a local gallery to see if they’d consider carrying my work. I did not want to do shows & get so busy it turned into a “job” versus enjoying the work. Added another gallery a year ago. Have not posted in a while since most of the boxes were a variation of what I’ve done before.
Last Fall l did decide to do one art/craft show… inside & limited hours over 2 days. I was thinking I may do that event again this year but they changed the format & focus to lower price points more weekend crafters.

So a few local artist are doing a “pop up market” next month for limited hours over 2 days, again inside. So I’ve made & delivered boxes to supply the 2 galleries; then built these for the “market”. Probably spread the work over 5 months or so when temps were reasonable. There’s some different designs in this group that I hadn’t done.

You may have seen the great boxes Dick (LJ “Recycle1943”) posted earlier this month. I did not get to the depth he did, but had a couple about 5 1/2” deep. I agree with Dick that it increases the degree of complexity.

Woods used are Walnut, Cherry & Wormy Maple. Finish usually 3-4 coats of 2lb cut non wax shellac & 2-3 coats of Arm-R-Seal.

If nothing sells I have plenty of stock for next year. Thanks for looking.

well, I gonna tell ya what – I have never seen so many nice band saw boxes in one place (even at my place) and I applaud the heck out of this group of boxes in that I don’t see any flocking, flocking is fine I’m just not a fan.
There aren’t too many that will spend the time sanding all of the cavities involved.
My hat is off to you sir !!

Looks like you are ready to go with some beautiful band saw boxes. I know a lot of work goes into these craft fairs and you must have been very busy. It’s a unique item that should really attract attention.

Thanks to all for your comments.
Dick, I agree with you on flocking & the sanding. I bought some flocking & tried it in hopes I could by pass all the sanding on the inside of the drawers & box opening. While it turned out Okay, I just didn’t like it over the natural wood with finish. I grumble a lot with all the hand sanding, but once it’s done, I feel “better”. OCD perhaps.
Steve N… I think herd is a good choice & fine with me.

these are amazing, very nice work. I like to do bandsaw boxes too and agree on the hand sanding. Your boxes with the tray on the top are a really neat design.

Exceptionally nice boxes! I’ve been kind of running out of project ideas…and find myself with an increasing supply of leftover short pieces of wood I can’t get myself to toss out. Ahah! Potential future projects solution! I’ve never tried bandsaw boxes before, but with Christmas just around the corner…Thanks for the timely entry!

Greetings from the central portion of the state, WNC guy! ; )

Ivan & Jim – Thank you for your comments.
bugrad – As I recall I found the tray top design initiated by Randy (LJ Blackie) some time back – he did/does magnificent work.
RCC – appreciate your comment. You have built some great pieces… If mine inspire you to try the B/S boxes, that is good enough for me. We live about 10 miles north of Asheville (close to Town of Weaverville). Moved here 18 years ago from Wisconsin. NC is a heck of a state from the mountains to the shore & Piedmont in the middle. What classifies as “the wilds of North Carolina” as you note in your location?
