This was my first go at making a birds mouth bowl! The piece of wood came from a branch in the Redbud tree out in the yard that needed to be pruned. The dimensions are 2 ½” diameter X 3” tall. I first attempted to finish the piece with an oil based polyurethane but Redbud is evidently a very oily wood so, that did not work out. After cleaning that mess up I applied a water based polyurethane to the bowl. I was surprised by how dense the Redbud wood is, but it turned out nicely and now we have a piece of this property that we can keep with us no matter where life takes us.

Thanks for stopping by,

Matthew Stillwell

Nice job turning the bowl. A lot of beauty came out in the wood.

Sharp looking bowl, the grain and finish makes everything pop. May have to try one or two of theses myself. Good job !!! Mel
