Project Information

After going by this piece of walnut many times, it said it wanted to be a dish so that is what I made it into.
It is 8 1/2" x 1 1/2" high and finished with Danish Oil and then buffed and waxed.
I turned it 2 weeks ago and forgot about it after I oiled it .I saw it in the furnace room and buffed it up today.

Cheers, Jim

A sad story that ends well! I'm happy to hear that your lonely walnut finally decided to tell you what it wanted to be!
I think Mr. Walnut chose it's transformation wisely and now Now Mr. Walnut has a purpose in life!
Nice work Jim!

Nice bowl Jim, but if I listened to everything my lumber piles said to me I'd end up with a couple houses.

I'm adding this to my favorites just because your comment about the wood telling you what it wanted to be proves that I'm not crazy. Now I can show my relatives written proof that I'm not the only one hearing voices from the wood pile. LOL

Great job, beautiful dish, glad you listened to it.

Thank you all for the nice comments! I'm glad other have the wood talk to them too. It happens in my shop a lot. That piece just sat there until I took the urn and steady rest off the lathe and then it was its turn so it spoke up! I already had a spigot glued on the back so I would not lose any height in the blank.

Hi Dick. What video was that? I have a real short memory these days.

Cheers, Jim

Fine looking dish Jim. It has great tone to it. You sure get nice results when buffing danish oil out. I wish my projects turned out that good after buffing.

That wood probably felt like the lamb in the butcher shop, knowing its fate was inevitably wrapped up with the wood lathe 8^)

Nice workmanship as always!
