this bowl is 14 ½” x 7” and made with bird’s eye maple, African Padauk and sapele.

I encountered several problems when making this bowl most were minor annoyances but the one that almost killed the project occurred during the glue up. When I glued the stack of rings together, the weights that I used the apply pressure to the bowl, wasn’t heavy enough. causing some gaps between a few rings. I broke out some epoxy and mixed up about 5 ounces. I poured that into the bowl and rotated the bowl to allow the resin to fill the gaps between the rings. After turning the bowl the gaps are only noticeable when I point them out.

I think I can figure out how to make the base (cool design and colors) but how do you make the hole in the middle and fill it so perfectly?

I just used a forstner bit in my tailstock then turned a plug to match the hole.
