I spent many years working as an antique picker in my youth and this is an attempt to relive some of that experience. Built of locally milled air dried cherry and curly maple I tried to stay as close as I could to traditional design and joinery. Lid and interior dividers are frame and panel construction, carcass, drawers and bracket feet are hand dovetailed. This was my first attempt at mitred dovetails.
Finish is shellac and wax, hardware from Lee Valley.

Lovely piece. Had you not mentioned a first on hand cut DTs I believe everyone would have thought you grew up with them. For a first attempt it would appear you have a firm grasp of the subject.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks, Steve, yes I have had quite a bit of experience with through dovetails and blind dovetails but this was my first attempt at mitred dovetails which I used only on the bracket feet. It took me a while to get my head around the concept but once I got started it kind of fell into place and I will be using them more in the future.
