Sharpening Staation

I recently moved into a new shop and realized I needed a place to sharpen tools as well as more storage for, you know, stuff. I recalled seeing a piece on small shops in a FWW issue a couple of years ago, specifically, a cabinet in Mike Pekovich’s shop which appealed to me. His has 3 banks of 5 drawers; mine has just 2.
Drawers run on hard maple slides set into the carcass and grooves dadoed into the drawer sides. Carcass in local milled pine, top is soft maple 1 3/4” thick. Shellac finish for protection. Pulls are 1” square walnut with a 10ยบ bevel on the bottom for finger grip—- simple/effective.
The project took less than a week to complete and so far has met all my expectations. It’s not very pretty but, hey, it’s shop furniture. The 2 top 3” drawers hold all my diamond plates, stones and jigs and the rest …. stuff.

I don’t know what you mean about “not very pretty”, that looks pretty gorgeous to me. Nicely done!

That looks great to me and very functional. Who doesn’t need room for more stuff! Nice job!
