This was a project that a friend of mine gave away as a present. Simple walnut serving tray and coasters with brass duck designs inlaid with brass ribbon. I locked the ribbon in place by wetting the wood with the steel wool disolved in vinegar solution that I was using to give the walnut an ebonized, almost pitch black look. After that, these were all coated in a salad bowl urethane for food safety and long wear.

Thanks guys! This was a real learning project. I’m planning on doing some inlay on my next workbench as a maker’s mark/signature kind of thing. I think it’ll become a fun addition to most projects.
