The friend I made the first live-edge cookbook stand liked it so much she commissioned me to make another for her sister’s birthday. I made a few changes to this one – I used cyanoacrylate to glue the loose bark instead of epoxy, which was much less messy. Planing went much better, but walnut continues to be squirrelly, so I had to do some scraping. I don’t like the finish scraping leaves, but it might get better as I get better at turning a burr (I got a proper burnisher, an Arno).
Like my friend, her sister is also kind of a hippie, so finish is four coats of Tried and True Varnish oil followed by my home-brewed carnauba wax blend.
-- I have some idea what I'm doing.
