Project Information

Okay, not really, not my idea, but I didn't come up with it. I saw it in an email I subscribe to from "Wood Magazine" on "Woodworking Tips and Ideas" or something like that. Anyway, a while back I did some upgrades to my table saw to mainly make it safer and more convenient to use. It included making a new fence rail for it because I added an extension to the right side of the saw. The fence rail is a piece of 2" x 3" steel tube. The original rail had plastic covers to cover the ends of the tube, but they did not fit my new rail. This Tip from Wood Mag. was perfect. Make a little slide out drawer that fits into the tube. It is a nice little pencil box…. I am always looking for a pencil when I am using the saw….. I love this!!

Now I will make one for the other end. It will hold my tools I need to change my zero clearance inserts, splitters and blade on the table saw..

Saw this too and was a bit envious, but I'll have to go on suffering the ones on my cabinet saws. Every square in of shop real estate is gold.

Great idea and excursion Paul; my contractors saw is too small to incorporate it, bother…

I saw that somewhere, it is good use of never thought of space. Always looking for a sharp pencil. My cheat is I but them by the gross, and leave them everywhere…....

Lot of slip and fall potential with that though.

I think I have a frigging bolt supporting the tube about 4" in. Figures I'd not be able to use such a clever idea 8^)

Today I made a drawer for the other end of the fence. It had a bolt about 5.5" in from the end of the fence. I made a little clearance cutout to the drawer to accommodate it and moved my pencils to that side, but my tools for the blade/splitter and zero clearance inserts in the left side. I added a picture of the two drawers.

Yep. Me too. I'm going to go make a drawer. So that my children will have another drawer to steal my pencil and tools out of… :p

I thought about painting the fronts black so they would look like the original covers that were on the original fence rail, but I like wood so I stained them instead.

I like this idea a lot. Well executed, even if it was not your original idea. Good enough for me!!
