I was recently asked by a newly selected Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer to make him a custom hat box that reflected the look of the bow of a Coast Guard cutter. He is a Boatswains Mate so he wanted the top to have the capstans and anchor chain since that is part of the equipment he is responsible for. He asked for the Chiefs anchor to be on the bow and the Coast Guard “Racing Stripe” on the side as it is on the ship. I have included a picture of the Coast Guard Cutter he asked me to use as the design reference. The hat box is made from cherry and finished with 5 coats of clear lacquer. The artwork on the glass, bow and sides were done by my wife with our laser machine. I have made many different kinds of hat boxes over the years but I think this one is the most unique.

very nicely done, Tim !!
the Chief will treasure it for many years to come and I’m sure
it will turn into a family heirloom.

Nice job Tim. I like the boat effect on the design.
