BOX MADE FROM JACARANDA

Recently I managed to tidy up my wild wood supply which consisted of a variety of timbers…Thankfully I have sealed the ends and my hope is to make use of all this nice wood when it dries out…....A big thank you to Neighbours and Friends who donated these logs to me…....

I have never made a hinged box before and being a novice woodworker I am a little overwhelmed at the beautifully crafted boxes displayed on the LJ Site. So please forgive the many mistakes made while making this box.
It is finished with 3 coats of Danish Oil.

Kind regards,

Cliff.

Great effort on the box Cliff, I can’t see any errors mate. Nicely done.
Look forward to seeing your next one.
Are you anywhere near the fires, look real bad on the news. Cheers.

Your box turned out just fine Cliff. Making something from logs take a lot more thinking and skill than going to buy the wood. I see you making more in the future and improving on everyone. Keep them coming.

Nice box here Cliff. Sounds like a few firsts on hardware, but it appears they ended successfully, so that is moving forward. Keep making.

Thanks for posting.

Bob..Thank you for your encouragement.
All good with the Fires…They are 100 Ks away or so. Everything is so dry and the bush in the fire areas just exploded into flame taking everything with it.
You would think that the GOATS running this dry continent would get serious about watering the place.

Kind regards,

Cliff.

Hi Dave…Thank you very much. Ill try and include more progress photos next project. Yes it does get a bit tricky working from a log. It is amazing the things that can happen such as a nicely cut board that overnight develops
a warp and bends the wrong way….very frustrating, but everything that happens is part of the learning…

I just have to train myself to remember where I put things…a clamp that was on the bench seconds ago vanishes
Same with pencils and steel rules…...Those Shop Goblins are Pesky little guys…...

Cliff

Sharp looking box, the danish oil helps the grain to stand out. Great job !!! Mel
