This is a last piece of the branch from my daughter’s tree. I turned it in the style of Rudy Lopez.
All the sanding had to be done off the lathe.
It is maple and finished with Danish oil and 3 stage buffed and waxed.
I was told it looks like something Egyptian!
Cheers, Jim

Here is a link to how I did it.

That’s a beauty Jim. It looks more like a piece of artwork. I bet you got a nice breeze from it while it was on the lathe.

That’s nice work Jim – not being a turner, I just don’t see the purpose other than to say I did it and that is quite an accomplishment

Really COOL…

Put a body on it and it could look like a Manna Ray!

Very nice…

Cool bowl. I would never have guessed how much work goes into a banana bowl. I watched Rudy’s video. Similar to your process. It reminded me of that old cartoon where they were making one tooth pick out of a whole tree.

Turned out beautiful Jim .
The thumb hole looks like it was on purpose .

I like it a lot but the turning process scars the hell out of me .

Thank you all for the nice comments. It is a challenge and an art piece more than anything.

Hi Klaus, that hole came awful close to breaking through the edge. I didn’t know there was knot hole in there until I started cutting the curve

Hi Bambi, this one’s for you. I forgot the banana!

Cheers, Jim

WOW!!!!!.....I could eat the Banana and then admire the Bowl!!!!

That looks tricky Jim..I imagine you would need to be very careful of your hands and fingers.
Well turned and very nicely finished…... Very clever project.

Regards,

Cliff.
