This chessboard was fun to make. The boarder is Cherry, the board is Walnut and hard Maple with 1 1/2” squares making the overall size 15X15”s. The magic appears when you flip every other board around to make the chess board. Thankfully I was able to use Boxbuys Duel drum sander to do some of the sanding, what a wonderful tool for making chessboards. The Walnut splines I made on my box spline jig. I used 3 coats of Minwax Tung Oil Finish and 2 coats of Minwax Satin Wipe On Poly. Thanks for looking, Joe

That is a great job Joe, I’ve been thinking about making one myself, just haven’t got around to it yet.
This could be my inspiration.
Thanks for sharing.

-- Bob, Western Australia, The Sun came up this morning, what a great start to the day. Now it's up to me to make it even better. I've cut this piece of wood 4 times and it's still too damn short.

Joe, this turned out beautifully. It is just the right size for the chess pieces you have used with it. It will only get prettier as the cherry border gets darker with age. Nice careful saw work. Of course anything with corner splines is a winner in my book. Adding those was not easy, but it sure makes the joint a lot stronger.

I also like the bin you made for sand paper, or in your case, for sanding mesh disks. Nice sanding station. All the needed tools and paper looks to be close at hand. That always makes the work go well.
