I wanted to come up with something for writing on while I was exercising. I keep a log to check myself. It also needed to hold my water, blue-tooth speaker, and some pencils. This is what I came up with.
I made it the perfect height for me. I added a light, two slots to hold pencils, and enough room to hold my speaker. The flat side table holds my water and phone.
The white base is simple poplar that has been painted. The top is just pine with Mahogany trim finished with several coats of Zinsser shellac. The slanted top base/desk can be removed and used as a sitting/laptop writing desk. It is held on using simple dowels. The lid is help on by a piano hinge (pic #6). I used mortise and tenon on the bottom base and simple 45’s for the writing box.
On the back side I have two USB ports and and three A/C outlets (pic #5). The lamp is plugged into one of them.
Here is what first got me thinking about a design and it grew from there.
