Project Information

This is my first project that I made something for me. I know, it is selfish, but I really needed a dresser! I made it with the help of WWGOA's George Vondriska and his online class. The carcass is made from 3/4 cherry plywood. A solid cherry fraceframe was made using pocket screws and glued to the carcass. The top is laminated cherry. I made the feet from laminated cherry blocks, cut at 30 degrees to match the 30 degree trim that transitions the top to the carcass. I used 1/2 baltic birch for the draw boxes with 1/4 baltic birch bottoms and attached solid cherry draw fronts. It was my first attempt at inset drawers. I finished it with Target Coatings Emtech 6000 satin production lacquer. I had used this finish on my miter station and cabinets and thought I liked it. I am sorry I used it for this project. I love cherry wood and have made a number of projects with it. I have always used Arm R Seal on cherry and it gives it such a warm golden look. I chose the lacquer because it dries fast and is waterbased. I sprayed it. If I could do it again, I would use Arm R Seal. This lacquer gives the dresser a cooler, white-ish look. I still like the dresser. In the class, George used soft close drawer slides. I think my carcass was slightly out of square and thus I had issues with the slides binding. I actually took the slides off of two drawers and it works really well. This project was challenging for me, but I learned quite a bit. I look forward to making a dresser for someone else in my family now. Thanks for looking.

That's really nice. That cherry is only going to get better looking with age.

Great job! Inset drawers are tricky. Looks like you tackled them though!

As the others have said, just give that cherry time, and it will darken/get more rich. I suppose if you want to speed it up, you could set it out in the direct sun for a few hours.

Thank you Pete. I think I will let it change color where it is. It is HEAVY to move around. Immediate gratification is tempting, though

That is a nice dresser! and well deserved I might add.
One of my four kids has it, next visit I should take some pictures of it for you.
Its no where as classy as yours, its just pine and no slide rails but looking at your design reminded me.

I made one of a very similar design some 30 Years ago.
