Full build album (to the extent I took pictures) is at

Daughter is in school and likes to draw, and she picked out a piece of purple heart a while ago and wanted a writing/drawing desk. Sketched something up and made it. Legs adjust with star knobs through indexed holes every inch, still at the lowest level for now, but should have enough room for adjustment through the years (it goes almost high enough to be an adult standing desk). Drawer is 24×30 so plenty of space for books, stationary, even a laptop.

Desk body is eucalyptus and cherry I had around (eucalyptus is nice and light and has great chatoyance… Drawer body is poplar with a live edge cherry front. Drafting table hardware from Rockler.

Made the top first, then it started warping a bit with the crazy humidity back in spring (couldn’t get in the shop for a while). Had to put in the C channel to keep it flat. Everything else was made with relative dimensions based on the top which limited my materials.

I love the different wood laminations with purple heart. This a cool project she will cherish forever.
