Made this for a friends son after graduation. Wood is quartersawn red oak. The lid has a curve in it, started with a bevel on all edges and finished off with a hand plane and sanding. The finish is many coats of brush on gloss lacquer, rubbed to a satin sheen.

Very nice gift. How did you inlay the cross on the lid?

Simply elegant box, Bob! Is the cross one piece? The half blind dovetails showing on the front is a beautiful detail. Thanks for sharing.

BB1, Candy, I cut the cross out in one solid piece about 1/4 inch thick. I used a marking knife to scribe it onto the top and then removed most of the waste with a router and then cleaned it up with a chisel. Thanks for looking and commenting.
