This is a basket illusion, segmented turning made from hard maple. Approximately 10 1/2” x 8” tall. Colored with India ink markers. Each ring is divided into 144 segments and there are 83 rings from top to bottom. The photos are before spraying a matte lacquer. This project was a little time consuming but very satisfying.

I don’t think that is an illusion at all. That is just hours and hours of tiny cuts, glued to rings, and then turned to perfection, then the real work starts when you did a mental paint by numbers artwork, but there weren’t any numbers, just some intricate pattern you could see in your minds eye . What am I missing here?

It is also fabulous, incredible, beautiful, art. I cannot imagine a living person not wanting to have that in their home, cardboard box, boat, whatever.

Well done, this is truly the Art to woodworking. Thank you for sharing.

I have seen many beautiful pieces on this website, and I am in awe of the skill and creativity often presented here. Add this project to that list…and stick it way up near the top.
How one visualizes and creates such a thing is beyond me. The skill and patience involved is only part of it…the ability to see in the minds eye and make it real is the true gift of artistic genius…

Julian,

Bravo.

Hey Julian,
Amazing work there!

This project was a little time consuming but very satisfying,
Only a little time consuming? or just very modest?
