I’ve been thinking about projects I can fairly easily repeat using odd-shaped off cuts. From that came the idea of making bottle openers, and recycling beer caps into the design. This is a piece of 59-year-old rimu given to me by a mate renovating their home. The opener is a cutt-off piece of copper pipe, and beer cap is from a bottle of Tuatara chocolate stout (which, yes, is delicious).

I’m not entirely happy with the cap insert yet, but otherwise the design works quite well. Regardless, this one has found a home at the Tuatara Tap Room in Paraparaumu :)

I like the way it highlights the wood grain and color while still providing a sleek, classic look. The bottle cap is a perfect accent.

I’m curious what you don’t like about the cap insert?

Thanks everyone!

Earl – there’s still a bit too much space around the edge for my liking :p
