My wife acquired a very large crockery type outdoor fountain & needed a stable base that wouldn’t sink in the ground. She also requested it look Asian. So I bought some treated ranch style fence posts & 2×12s. I cut the fence posts to length, sharpened one end of each & drove them with a sledge hammer down until they hit hard clay. Then I used long treated deck screws to attach & level 2 rails & trommed the posts even. Then attached a couple of treated 2×12 deck boards. And installed the fountain.
