Live edge Sycamore table with inlay

I obtained a ten foot slab of local sycamore with a live edge, and cut it in half to five foot.
A friend had given me a couple of walnut slabs that looked like the face of an owl. The one end of the sycamore had a spit where a branch had grown. I routered it out and inlaid a section of the ‘face’.
The table design is similar to a previous walnut table I’d made. The colors in the top were so many shades of cream, vanilla, tans and grays, I used a clear satin, water based poly to bring them out. The lower portions are spalted sycamore with some pretty wild figuring. I chose a provincial / mahogany stain and poly finish.
Thanks for looking!

beautiful table and the owl is a perfect eye catcher. You’ll get many many comments over that

Beautiful selections of contrasting wood and great craftsmanship. The joinery on the tabletop to the legs is well done and looks great.

Love the top. love the inlay, it really is different, mostly I love that base. It’s so nice NOT to see another of those hateful hairpin leg things.

Thanks for posting, and possibly giving some of these young’uns an idea of what woodworking is about.

That’s a really nice table. The inlay in the top adds so much to it. Great work!

Absolutely cool and beautiful. The owl patch was clever, and I really like the proportions and color combinations. Well done.

I specifically like WHERE you put the owl. I’d have centered it because I’m not very original, and I have a hard time not being symmetrical. Putting it there was a great idea, making it really stand out.
