Project Information

I built this Sea Chest for a retired USMC Lieutenant Colonel. He requested that it include 2 hidden drawers that are easily accessible. I disguised each drawer front as part of the molding on each end. The drawers are 4 inches deep, 12 inches wide and 16 inches long and lined with velvet. Lifting the lid reveals a removable tray with a shadowbox in the center. Not seen in the photos is a solid cedar lined space for storage under the removable tray. I used my CNC machine to cut the USMC Eagle Globe and Anchor into the top of the lid. The EGA was also laser engraved on each cleat. The front of the Sea Chest is covered with 1/8" glass to provide easy viewing of the memorabilia.

Gorgeous work! I'm getting ready to start working on one myself. Hope it turns out half as good as the one you made!

Beautiful work. Wonderful detail and the hidden drawers make the project even more personal and special. This will surely be a prized family heirloom for generations.

Wow, impressive work again. Great ideas on the chest especially the handles.

Did you do the fancywork on the handles?

Thanks for the comments. Can't take credit for the fancy rope work on the handles. I found the braided rope for the handles on Ebay. I did make the cleats though and my wife did the laser work on them. She also did the installation of all the memorabilia inside the shadow box portions of the chest.
