Project Information

My son need a head board for his new bed I told him to find a picture of what he liked and I would build it for him. He found a brochure for the complete set - it was nice because they gave outside dimensions. Luckily, I have a friend who owns a Hardwood Lumber Yard and Kiln so I had an inexpensive source for the rough cut oak and sassafras for drawer boxes. Unfortunately this project was before I knew of Sketchup so I had to use AutoCad (which I was a real novice at using) to create the drawings. I had just retired and had purchased a planer, small joiner and a router table. I had to purchase a dovetail jig. This was my first attempt at raised panel doors and dovetailed drawer boxes, needless to say I learned that the are both easy if you have the right tools.

My son priced the furniture at the local store and they wanted over $5000. It probably would have been cheaper to buy it, but it was worth the effort for what I learned.
