I was recently asked by a customer to build him an Aircraft Carrier Shadowbox for his retirement. He showed me a few pictures of others he had seen on the internet but gave me artistic license to design and build it as I saw fit as long as I included a few specific things in the design. He wanted the flight deck to be a challenge coin rack, he wanted the ship number to be the same as the new house he just purchased and he wanted it to be named after him. The overall length of the carrier ended up at six feet and the height was approximately 2 feet to the top of the antenna on the island. The entire flight deck has grooves cut in it for challenge coins and I would estimate it should hold at least 200. The numbers, ship name and bridge windows were cut with our laser machine. The entire shadowbox is done out of solid cherry hardwood, stained with a red mahogany stain and finished with 6 coats of clear lacquer. I added a 5 bladed brass prop mounted to a stainless steel prop shaft to add a little extra detail to the project. He was one happy customer.

I’ve never seen one like this before. Very nice, I was on USS Enterprise CVN65 back in 85-89. Love this.

I’d never seen something like this, what a neat project!

You should share your project in Facebook groups, might catch a few more customers this way.
