Commission from a local small business for 6 keep-sake letter sized boxes in six different woods. Matching inlay banding on bevel topped shop-sawn veneer tops. Satisfying job, making one-of-a-king objects at an affordable price for the client.
Cherry, birds-eye maple, walnut, curly soft maple, sapele, and spalted hard maple, with ebony inlay.

How do you get contacts like that! I would love to have some constant work coming in from local shops for my workmanship. It must feel really great to be commissioned like that!

I wish it were constant !

I have a web presence with a portfolio of custom work for people to look at: http://www.alladd.com/custom-boxes/inlay/index.html
and I’ve been at it full time for over 35 years.

But it’s always a struggle keeping a steady flow of dollars coming in, especially since the economic collapse of ‘08…

These look great! Any tips on how to glue the miters without any gaps?
