Bear Claws and Corn...

I was pretty excited about this swap as I had what I thought was a great idea for a BBQ item. In the South, pulled pork is guaranteed crowd pleaser so the idea of a customized carry case with a set of stainless bear claws seemed so perfect. Then I found out that my swap recipient was Earl. Earl is a legend in my mind with the quality and quantity of his swap items. Knowing that he was without a shop made me want to make sure that he got the same treatment he has given a lot of swappers in the past (Heck, I even got a cool domino hammer and some big beers a while back and I wasn’t even his swap recipient). The corn idea hit me one night and it ended up taking over the box I sent.
I used some really nice clear birch that I’ve been hoarding for this project. I ended up cutting the bear box twice as the first one warped before I got the finish on it so now I have a slightly defective box of my own for my next BBQ experience!

Nice set, Mike. And so weird how the bear has the same last name as Earl. ;-)

At first I thought the post was going to be unbearably corny, but after having a look its in fact very clever.

Beer swap? what beer swap?

Rob,
I think the postage would kill you guys off-shore…
Kenny will be posting it soon. Do a search for 2018 Beer Swap to see what we did the last time.

Clever design and execution , mikeacg.

As D’P’ alluded to… you should be commended for tracking down a friendly bear clever enough to carve and hold up that Sichterman plague. Keeping the bear docile enough to pose as a model for the box must have taxed your patience.

Duck,
I’m guessing that Dave’s bears in MN aren’t as smart (or docile) as our UP (Yes, it is actually a part of Michigan) bears. They also love selfies!!!
Ivan,
Thanks for looking. Too bad you aren’t closer or you could join in the fun! I wonder what it would cost to send a box to Croatia…

Well that answers that question! Postage is one of the biggest cost of doing business these days. I see everybody trying to compete with Amazon by offering free shipping. I ended up getting a small refrigerator and microwave for the new store from Target. Both were Sunbeam, cheaper than Amazon and free shipping which helped in my decision!
