Front Stoop redo

Been in our house for twenty years, and never liked the front stoop. It dawned on me that I am a carpenter…(retired) so, DOH! Maybe I should do something about it.

Posts are fir 4×4, wrapped with KD treated pine. Railings and pickets are also KD pine; the pickets I made because I hate the poor quality of what’s commercially available. The balusters are treated 4×4’s that sat in the shop with a dehumidifier for two months, and were then jointed and planed, shrinkage cracks patched with Bondo. We’ll see how they hold up. The rail design has always been a favorite, and used on a number of decks I have built in my previously employed life.
Makes the bride happy, and therefore all is well… ; )

I like it. Very clean, simple lines, well laid out. I tend to like turned spindles, but this works well.
And pleasing the wife? Bonus!

This really makes the street scape of the house look great.

Post some b4 pics if you have them for comparison.

Hi Matt!

The second photo is a before pic, with the older turned posts and traditional railing. Just wanted an outside project, and a different, more unique look. I suppose “street scape” would be improved if you could see our house from the road… ; )

Thanks for the kind words all. Didn’t really expect much feedback given this site draws more furniture and fine woodworking enthusiasts, but haven’t contributed to the site lately so I thought I’d toss this in the mix. Need to rectify that!
