Stemmed hollowform made of spalted curly sweetgum with brass inlays, a maple collar, and walnut base and finial. I have wanted to make one of these for a while now and finally got around to it. I started turning this piece while testing some equipment after which I left the uncompleted blank in the car for two days in Florida. Not surprisingly, it cracked, but I used that opportunity to incorporate some brass fillings that I have been holding on to. I had originally intended to have the spindles and body of this piece to have a more striking contrast in color, but I think that in the end the variety of earthy shades works really well here. I also had the base turning ripped out of my hand at the buffer and broken in half after all the work I out into it. But, I was able to repair it and now I can’t find the break whew. This one was hollowed with Easy Wood Tools Hollower and finished with Starbond CA. Overall, I am pretty happy with this one. As usual there are a few opportunities for growth next time.
