Plaid Cutting Boards

My wife was wondering what to get our daughters’ highland dance teachers as year-end gifts. I suggested making something, and showed her a picture of a plaid cutting board (something I figured would be appropriate) that I had found on pinterest. What you see here is the result, and my first attempt at end grain cutting boards. I thought they turned out pretty well, and the teachers all loved them! These are made from Hickory, Sapelle, Walnut, and Purpleheart, and finished with a 4:1 mixture of mineral oil and beeswax.

Phil, you started out making end grain boards with a bang. That will be a tough act to follow.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks guys! My wife was very happy with the end result too, I’m already getting started on making one for her. I didn’t really know what I was getting into when I started these. But I’m positive that any end grain cutting boards I do from here on out can’t really get any more complicated.

Very well done. I’ll add this to my To Do List.

I totally love those. I imagine they took a lot of work arranging the pattern.
