Oak and ash for my stash (False bottom box.)

Last time I was visiting my friends in Canada we were joking about the new marijuanas laws. So for my return visit I made a box for her to hide her stash.

1/2 inch think ash sides, 1/2 inch thick oak top and bottom. Bottom is hollowed out a depth 1/4 inch and then maple rails were added to make the hidden compartment 1/2 inch deep. The false bottom is 1/8 inch oak plywood with a neodymium magnet inserted and affixed with epoxy. I made a lifter, but a metal spoon will work as well. Finish is amber shellac and wax.

  1. Friend with box.
  2. Closed box.
  3. Opened box.
  4. False bottom removed.
  5. Back side of the false bottom with lifter.

Except for sizing the wood and cutting the slots for the walnut splines only hand tools were used .

Don, I like the walnut splines. It is a great contrast with the ash sides.

Thanks Al. Nice to hear from you again. I liked how the amber shellac looks too. It was a new adventure for me. I wanted something that would make the oak and ash contrast a bit.

New law, legal now, just twice the cost after taxes! Plus the added benefit that the impaired driving laws allow the police to test you at their decertation! No more reasonable cause, works for me.

Hmmmm, wonder why she’s wearing shades indoors? ;-) Nice box Don. The magnet and lifter is very creative. Never seen that before :-)

Thanks Kenny. I thought it was a natural way to do it. A fun little experiment

I’d disguise myself too if I admitted to smoke that crap! :)

Smoking crap is not a new practice with just the youngies of today. I remember while in the scouts back in ‘62 we’d try smoking anything from tree bark to hemp rope… cow dung was the best… dried!

And look at me now… IQ of 15 (on a good day) and a face like the north end of a south bound cow.
