Presentation Boxes

Zonker just posted a great presentation box and reminded me of some Christmas presents I had done a while back. No fancy joinery here – just plain old butt joints…

Maker’s Mark box for a friend’s husband. 1/4” cherry glued to a pine blank and CNCed to remove the cherry around the logo. Added 2 laser-engraved cocktail glasses to the mix.
Penguin box for a lovely lady who donated a cherry TV cabinet to my shop. Recycled one of the door panels for the front with a carved penguin and crossed fish at the top. 2 laser-engraved glasses with facing penguins and a bottle of special edition Tradicionale (she is one of 2 beautiful blonde women who sat and drank tequila with me in my kitchen).

Tequila worm box for the other beautiful blonde woman… Created 3D model in Sculptris to carve on the front and laser-engraved the glasses with the Illini logo (Hey, at least she likes football even if her taste in teams is a bit suspect!).
Blank wine box – simple design that can be embellished in a number of ways. 3/4” is a bit thick but it allows me to add carvings without worrying about cutting through.

Thanks Duck! I had a great time on the BBQ swap. You will see!

Dave – I only did the glassware with the laser on these projects – but it is a fun toy!!! I always look for new ways to do something!

CNC and/or laser in a wood workshop… tar and feather him with handmade tools.

Hell, I remember the filthy (and some beguiling) looks I got from friends and family when I brought home my first Black & Becker electric drill in 1966 (I think, as a rebellious teen… who temporarily gave up smoking to pay for it).

Tools have change but attitudes haven’t.

Great job on all the items and I volunteer to help empty those boxes in drinking to your imagination.

Great pieces. My favorite, the Marker’s Mark box. My son use to really be into their whiskey…. he was even one of their ambassador, me not so much… I like Scotch… I could make the box though,,using a scroll saw. Nothing against CNC…. I am just outdated.

Nothing like “outdated” Scotch P’D’... Black label where all the colour has worn away with age.

LBD – Ain’t that the truth? I’ll probably guarantee my demise by adding a 3D printer at some point!

Thanks for the kind words Jim and PaulDoug!

mikeacg: Very nice boxes. . Don’t change the wine box, it has a certain industrial/no nonsense feel to it I think is very appealing. No might to it, I will be stealing some of your ideas in the future. Since imitation is the sincerest from of flattery, I’ll call it that instead of plagarism. :0)

Zonker,
Thank you for inspiring me to post these boxes! I sometimes need a push to take a few minutes and share what I have been doing…
