This is a happy Santa, ice skating on a local pond in the far North. Santa stands about 7 inches tall, including the stand. Carved from basswood, painted with acrylics.

That is an awesome piece. I really admire you carvers. Wish I had that kinda talent.

I like him Claude, he looks free of the stress of Christmas eve deliveries. Some Santa time.

Thanks for posting.

Love this Santa!
Is this your design, or is it a pattern you found somewhere?

I found a cartoon on the internet, sketched it on a block of wood, then cut it out on my bandsaw. The cartoon only showed a 3/4 front view, so I had to create the pattern for the right side and back…

The beautiful work you do with the scroll saw indicates to me that you could probably do a great carving also! See if you can find a local carving club and go visit them. I know a great carver in Spokane, and he might know some down where you are. If you want more info, send me a private message. Most club members are happy to show you their tools, and many will let you try them out to see what fits your hand (not all knives are comfortable to hold).
