Project Information
My Grandfather mentioned a while back how much he enjoys playing checkers with all his buddies at the Vetrans' center and has been teaching his great-grandkids how to play. So, I decided for Father's day this year, I'd make him a checkerboard. I didn't have as much time as I would have liked so I ended up buying wooden checkers to go with it. I plan to turn a set of matching checkers though and give those to him for Christmas. Or sooner if I get to it before then. So, for Christmas… ;-)
The board is locally harvested White Oak and Walnut and the border is some Curly Maple I got from my buddy Grant. The border is attached with Walnut dowels aligned with the Walnut squares and the butt joints are pinned with 1/8" stainless rod.
Thanks for looking. Comments and questions welcomed as always!
