Tatami-style bed for my son. Followed the instructions from Sean Rubino’s build for the frame with a few tweaks

https://spunjinworks.com/2014/08/15/tatami-style-platform-bed/

I designed the headboard so that it slides over the bed rail and cantilever against the back legs. Wanted to keep up with the asian theme and not use bolts or hardware The curved back came out nice, but it was too much time and effort. Sliding doors took a little finesse to get just right, but it was a good learning experience.
The frame is genuine mahogany and maple. The panels are tiger maple, for which my pictures and light do not do justice. Finished with GF high performance (water-based), which was a touch decision in order to maintain the contrast between the maple and mahogany and keep the maple white, you accept a trade off with the mahogany. Used GF Enduro-Var on the panels to bring up the figure a little. Very happy with those 2 finishes.

Thanks Randy. I plan on having a little talk with him and his sister to make sure it doesn’t get ruined too much

Beautiful bed. That is truly a great design!
