A redwood deck with stairs and handrail. I used galvanized concrete post anchors for the 4×4 legs. The diagonal cross bracing made the deck very solid. The stringers for the steps were cut with my skilsaw and sit on a pressure treated 2×12. The handrail was requested to be “open” by the customer as they do not have any children. I sanded everything to 120 grit and sealed with Thompson’s clear coat.

Redwood looks great! Have you ised the Thompsons before? I ised it on my new cedar deck last year and it looked great…...for about 2 months. Had to refinish again this year and used up the rest of what i had left over from last year. I’ll probably try a tinted finish next year.

Andy, my experience with Thompsons has been the color will fade if the wood gets a lot of direct sunlight. This deck is in the shade most of the day so it should be ok. I chose Thompson’s more for it’s use as a water sealent then anything else.
