This is a graduation present for one of my god-daughters. It is the same style of a jewelry box I’ve made before, with a few differences to make it unique. I couldn’t bend the purple heart enough (with soaking) so I mixed epoxy and purple heart saw dust. Routed the sun design and filled with the epoxy. Brusso hinges so I wouldn’t have to use a chain. The feet were just a design I wanted to try that may not look great but I was trying something new. Maple, Purple Heart and the inside boxes were out of Cherry. Finished in lacquer only, the picture of the sun on top just looks a little yellow. Thanks for taken a look.

Interesting species picks for the box. Young and playful. I like the top, and the splines. Not sure about the feet though. From the front they are good, but look unfinished from the side view. Maybe extend them, and cut a return so it covers the end grain? Or make the return from some of the maple? Sort of bring it back around color wise.

I love a box with compartments though, and you have several spaces, and the slide to the side always works, so good on you for that. Like that sun, and the rays.

Biggest thing is what did she think about it?

Sharp looking box. The feet probably still need a little tweaking, but you knew that. Gotta try new things!

I’ll try to get it to her in another State this coming weekend.
