A few years ago, a friend gave me a walnut log about 3.5 feet long and 12 inches in diameter…..bark still on. I stored it for two years, and then had it cut into 1 inch boards with the bark still attached. After a year in the rafters of my garage, it was dry enough to try a project. I liked the edge left when the bark was removed, and this seemed to lend itself to some free-form, natural-edge cutting/serving boards.
The nearer one is about 13 inches long and the far one is about 17 inches. They have a finger hole that will also make it easy to hang them up. They are sanded to 220 and finished with food grade mineral oil.
