Box is oak salvaged from an old dresser. Lid topped with maple I resawed from a small piece I purchased, and wrapped with pre-made inlay.

Hardware (and music guts) come from a kit I found on clearance somewhere probably about 20 years ago.

Finished in 3 coats of spray shellac, sanded and then paste wax.

Overall I’m pleased.

The box turned out very nice. The 20-year-old kit on clearance sounds like you’re one of us! That’s our way of shopping. You made great use of it.

What song does the music play?

Great gift, I like those stripes on top.

Hell Cam’r’, that is a great present for the missus… or anyone else…

However, can I suggest the next time to impress (in case she reads this), is to say, that I purchased this exotic timber from a lost tribe in the Amazon, the movement I gutted from some 17th century Giuseppe Tartini creation, finished with 28 coats of French polish and the hinges gold plated by Midas himself, as for the song… hell, an original Bethoven…
