I was asked if I could make a last minute box to be given as a gift.
The catch was that I only had 24 hours to design and build it.
I like a challenge so I dropped everything and got to work.
The customer was wanting something pretty simple, and no dividers, so I scratched my head and came up with this.
I barely delivered it in time….whew!

The sides are a very dark White Oak
The lid is from one piece of quilted Western Maple
The handle is Paduak
The feet are walnut with a Paduak rail, this can be seen in photo 4
The lining is Buffalo hide
Brass pins were used for hinges
Finish is semi-gloss Lacquer

Thanks for looking!

Another great box Andy, amazing you could do it in a day. Is the white oak naturally that color?

WOW! In 24 hours! Did you use some of that time to sleep? Did you have all the material already? You are one amazing guy! To get something this nice done so quickly with your level of perfection is only done by a master.
Just beautiful work as always!

Andy, lovely box. I would guess the sides are bog oak. I love the colors. Necessity is often the Mother of Invention. Nice that lacquer dries so quickly. A day to make a box is a tough ask. Four days was the quickest I could do, and I only did that one time. I like the title as well (and the song). Thanks for sharing.

Working under pressure is good for you once in a while. Makes all of those little electrons buzzzzzzz. It’s when you try it for weeks on end, you tend to fall down.

Like the box, it’s as masculine a box as I’ve seen here with that Buffalo hide. The woods, and the colors they bring to bear work well.

Thanks for posting.

Thank you everyone for your kind remarks, glad you like it!

Bobasaurus- yes, the darkest I have ever seen and very heavy!
Tony- the side lumber was already milled, thats it.
@ Big Al- it came from a local pallet so its doubtful though similar in color.
