I over did it this time

I really over did it this time with the embellishment. This is a large keepsake/Jewelry box made of ash and Granadillo. The size it approximately 12×8 x 6”. The bottom of the box is sectioned with two dividers being removable if one wishes to open the entire bottom for storage. The top drawer is divided into two sections (and the divider is not removable). The top outside of the box lid was engraved with a wave pattern and various colors of iridescent paint airbrushed into the grooves. Two inlay strip of wood were added. I like the top. Where I overdid it was adding an engrave dove on the underside of the lid (see photos). It seemed like a good idea at the time, but after carving the dove,; at least to me, it seemed to distract from the elegance of rest of the box. In fact, to me it looked tacky and out of place. Just goes to show sometimes you need to not add to much. Simple and well done beat showy or gaudy!

The box was finished with water based poly to keep the ash as light as possible.

Nice box. Nice storage possibilities, the inlay is good, I even like the Dove, it’s inside, like a surprise gift.

Not a fan of the airbrush detail though.

Thanks for posting.

Anything worth doing is worth over doing.

Looks great! Nice job.

I wouldn’t worry about the dove. The box has so many well done details and such a well executed design that no one is going to bump the like factor down. Great work on a unique and pleasing design.
